Action Mitsubishi
When it comes to sub-compact SUVs, you're spoilt for choice at Mitsubishi, with two models to choose from: the RVR and the Eclipse Cross. The latter is a little bigger, so if you need more space, it might be a little better suited to your needs.
There are five versions on the menu: ES, SE, SEL, Noir and GT.
While the base ES version is very attractively priced at under $30,000, some may find that the SE model offers perhaps the best value in the range. We'll let you be the judge. And to do so, here's a reminder of what the base version offers, followed by the additions proposed with the jump to the SE version.
The mechanics
First of all, the Eclipse Cross is powered by a single engine, regardless of version: a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, rated at 152 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) teams up with it, with a manual mode that replicates the work of an eight-speed gearbox.
And of course, all Eclipse Cross models come with Mitsubishi's S-AWC (Super-All Wheel Control), a sophisticated all-wheel drive system that has become an industry benchmark.
The equipment
Now, as to what the SE version adds to the range, it's more than interesting. As a reminder, from the initial offer (ES), the Eclipse Cross comes with automatic climate control, front collision mitigation, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps, a free subscription of three months to Sirius XM satellite radio, 18-inch wheels, daytime running lights and LED lights, as well as black skid plates front and rear, among others.
An excellent start.
And the SE version adds to this with a heated steering wheel, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, hands-free tailgate opening, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals that fold electrically, dual-zone climate control, top-of-the-range fabric seats, and electric locking with keyless access.
All this for just under $33,000. The proof is in the pudding.
And you get the added bonus of a super-reliable model, whose 10-year or 160,000 km powertrain warranty is an industry benchmark.
Truly, the Eclipse Cross SE is a model to discover in the Mitsubishi range. Come and see it at our dealership.
