The Mitsubishi RVR has always been synonymous with quality and performance in its segment. Additionally, it is available with the best all-wheel-drive system in its class. Today, we compare it with a 2020 Toyota CH-R, a rival in its segment which has good attributes, but that can’t match the 2020 Mitsubishi RVR on several points.
First, the Mitsubishi RVR has a lower starting price than the CH-R, $ 22,998 compared to $ 23,675. Physically, the Mitsubishi RVR is slightly larger and wider than the Toyota CH-R. This small detail is reflected in particular by much more space in the passenger compartment as well as more cargo capacity.
In terms of powertrains, the 2020 Mitsubishi RVR offers two options, and both are more powerful than the only choice offered by the Toyota CH-R. The ES and SE variants of the Mitsubishi RVR come with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. For those who want more power, the Limited, GT and BLACK Edition versions are powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque.
For its part, the Toyota CH-R is only offered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that develops only 147 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque. Both vehicles are offered with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), regardless of the engine chosen.
But what gives Mitsubishi RVR the mechanical victory, in addition to all of these advantages, is certainly the fact that it is available with Mitsubishi S-AWC all-wheel drive. The Toyota CH-R can only be delivered with front-drive-wheel which is a big negative for our climate.
The Mitsubishi is only slightly larger than the Toyota CH-R, but it offers a lot more inside. For example, its cargo space reaches over 600 litres with all seats in place.
As for the CH-R, it can only offer 538 litres behind the 2nd row. In addition, the cargo space is much lower when the seats are lowered, with a maximum of 1,031 litres against 1,402 litres for the Mitsubishi RVR.
